Myth #1 about Egyptian Dance (and its debunking)

The most common Myths about Egyptian Dance (and their debunking)📯📯📯

Myth #1 - Egyptian Dance is a Seduction Ritual.

And, by saying "a seduction ritual", I´m being nice. Polite. Prudish, perhaps.
Although I know where this idea comes from, and although a lot of dancers keep feeding it, I never wrapped my head around it. There´s a part of me, the part that knows, that can´t digest this nonsense.

Yes, Egyptian Dance is harmonious, pleasurable, aesthetically-emotionally-mentally-and-spiritually gorgeous; it´s round, flesh-meets-bones-meets-blood-meets-everything; it´s non-apologetically juicy.

Yes, it´s Sensual. Not a ritual of Seduction.

I guess I´ll die doing two things:

1. Kissing my man and whispering "I love you";
2. Yelling to the winds: "there´s a different between seduction and sensuality, folks!"
When my soul has passed on to another dimension - hopefully, at the top floors of the dimensional realm -, I´ll still repeat: Egyptian Dance is Sensual, not necessarily Seductive.
Sensuality is about the pleasure we offer ourselves.

Seduction is about the pleasure, and the promise of additional pleasure, we offer others.
In Sensuality, I´m my own target. I dance to enjoy myself, my body, the music, the movement, the moment.

In Seduction, there´s an exterior target. I dance to attract someone, to hit an exterior target, to offer pleasure to someone who is definitely not me.

There are historical reasons associating Egyptian Dance with Seduction. Economic, political, social, and even religious reasons. There´s also the lack of self-respect, the main reason why some dancers will forget to enjoy themselves - sensuality - and focus on seducing the audience.
Every dance can be used for seduction. It all goes down to the intention of the dancer, the motivation (=motive for action) of the one who pulls the trigger.

Furthermore, do we need dance - Egyptian or other dance - to seduce? Have we lost our last ounce of imagination and instinct?

Dear Lord.

The archetype of the Oriental Dancer is colored with Sensuality because there´s no Egyptian Dance without Life and Life is a sensual experience. Seduction is an extra layer, a personal choice, some times a need, the need for approval, applause, likes and followers, acceptance by the system. A rotten system.

Nope. Egyptian Dance is NOT a seduction ritual but, damn, it´s sensual. It´s got so much life in it, so much juice, so much truth.

Next time you dance, ask yourself: whom am I trying to please? Your answer to that question will make History.
