Do THIS today.

I can only share what I´ve become and, therefore, learned.

 

And here´s an interesting thing I´ve learned:

Not everyone wants to evolve.

All of us grow older - that´s mandatory - but few actually grow up - that´s optional. 

 

Outch.

Take a second.

Yep, that one hurts. 

 

Saying no to growth - dance and/or personal growth - is a part our free will. We choose, at every second, the person we wish to be. 

 

It´s 1 pm, now. During this morning, I´ve made several (apparently) little decisions that speak of who I am and whom I wish to become.

 

👉At 6 am, I woke up, drank my water, took care of our kittens; sat down and did my morning meditation. 

I didn´t feel like it but I did it, anyway.

My man called me back to bed - a tough call, hard to resist - and I said no although I was sleepy and in need of his hug. 

 

 

👉At 6.30 am, I prepared my breakfast.  

I felt like eating toast with cheese - yummy - and drinking a large cup of coffee. That happens when I´m particularly tired.

Instead, I prepared my fresh fruit with soy yoghurt, integral cereals, seeds, nuts, and a splash of peanut butter (´cause I´m not made of stone).

I changed coffee for rosemary tea, a recommendation from my acupuncturist, and I got dressed. 

 

 

👉At 7.30 am, I was ready to start my work day.

I smiled, took a deep breath, and told myself: let´s do this.

Although the usual distractions and requests jumped over me - social media, emails from students, questions from followers, notifications, a long though exciting to-do list calling me in every direction - , threatening to take over, I closed the door and focused on my priorities.

 

My mobile was off. The door of my dance studio, closed, crowned by a "DON´T DISTURB" sign.

 

I worked on my writing; created the outline for a brand new course at Joana Saahirah´s Online Dance School, and I taught a private class. As I should. 

 

 

👉At 12.30h, I was on my Yoga mat for a quick 30-minutes practice. 

I didn´t particularly felt like doing it but I chose to. Under the sun, at our garden, using what I had. 

 

Choices. Choices. Choices. All day long. We may not see them as such but, let´s wake up and smell the coffee, they´re DECISIONS WE MAKE SECOND BY SECOND.

Those decisions either lead to our growth or to our demise. 

 

Now, let´s return to the drama and to WHAT I SUGGEST YOU DO TODAY:

 

Most people grow older - they never grow up. Growing older is inevitable - unless your Count Dracula - but growing up isn´t. 

You´re not "most people". That I also know. You´re here, after all. You´re extraordinary (out of the ordinary/average).

For that reason, I´m sharing this with you: DO THIS TODAY and you´ll be actively investing in your growth. As a dancer and as person. 

 

BECOME AWARE THAT YOU ARE YOUR ONLY COMPETITION AND ENEMY.

 

Yes, others can support you, or not. 

Yes, they can hurt you, sabotage you, step on your neck, betray, gossip and offend you (been there, a target of haters, way too many times).

Yes, life can, and will, throw rocks at you. 

And yet, none of those labeled "enemies" are the forces that´ll stop you from growing.

 

WE, AND WE ALONE, ARE OUR BEST OR WORST ENEMIES.

Most of our life and dance depend on us; on our decisions.

 


 

DO THIS TODAY:

CALL BACK THE POWER INTO YOUR HANDS AND DO SOMETHING, A SMALL THING IF YOU LIKE, THAT´LL ALLOW YOU TO GROW.

No excuses, no pointing fingers, no blaming the world

-

TAKING CHARGE OF YOUR GROWTH, OWNING THE RESPONSIBILITY AND THE LIGHT THAT YOU CARRY WITHIN.

 

 

It can be something as simple as:

1. Drinking 10 glasses of water, today;

2. Dancing for 1 hour, today;

3. Writing that essay that you´ve been postponing, today;

4. Meeting with your best friend for coffee, today;

5. Cooking a healthy meal for you, today;

6. Reaching out and saying "I love you" to someone important, today;

7. Meditating for 15 minutes and telling yourself "I deserve the best in life", today.

 

 

Small things, when done consciously and consistently, add up.

A castle is built out of small bricks, laid upon each other, one by one, bit by bit. 

 

You, too, can build your castle.
