3 Soul Boosters by Joana Saahirah

As a dancer and, certainly, as a person, I often struggle to keep my soul intact.

Wars - internal and external -, economy, global warming; personal and collective issues. And, what hurts deeper in the skin, heartbreak coming from the observation of a world that seems less and less human, more and more machine-like, robotic, soulless.

Making sure I, too, don´t lose my soul starts to look like a full-time job. Luckily, it´s a pleasant job.

Here are 3 of my favorite SOUL BOOSTERS suited for the season we´re living. Feel welcome to adopt them, adapt them to your own, and share them.

Ready to LIFT YOUR SPIRIT(S)? Let´s go!

I make sure I stay out in the sun - morning sun, if possible - for at least 20 minutes every day.

There´s something about the Autumn/Winter sun that boost my soul. Is it the nostalgia? The bitter-sweet feeling of endings? Is it a subtle message from another world?

I don´t know what it is but it´s powerful.

I expose my skin to the Sun. I let it sink in and it gives me more than a dose of vitamin D - it boosts my soul.

An occasional Autumn/Winter - warm and velvet-tasting - drink accompanied by a good book.

More than a double pleasure, it´s an evasion that allows my brain and body to rest and, strangely or not, awakens my soul.

I pick a cozy coffee-shop or, when that´s not possible, I improvise one at home. Coffee or hot cocoa and a table covered in books. Ah, I´m in heaven.

There´s power in showing up and sharing your light - there´s also power in temporarily hiding, retreating, resetting. That´s what this simple ritual allows me to do.

One of my most beloved - and infallible - soul boosters.

Poetry.

Reading it in silence or out loud. For myself and for my man. Or for a dear friend, an unicorn like me.

Don´t discard it until you try it.

Good poetry reaches your soul in a way nothing - not even the best prose, not even silence - will.

It jumps above our intellect, worries, and ego and it lands right where it´s supposed to: on our soul. Only to stir it, open it, reawaken it.

I have several favorite poets - Mary Oliver being one of them. Search for yours. Thank me later
