Testimonials from our Students

(Joana Saahirah´s Online Dance School)

Seiko Endo (Japan),

a student at Joana Saahirah´s Online Dance School

I would highly recommend Joana Saahirah´s Online Dance School to other students. But only those who are really interested in the authentic Egyptian dance and the culture behind it.

I have learned beautiful choreographies, received many beautiful learning materials, tips for self-practice, and some Arabic.

I have also learned practical ways to be self-confident through your course, which is indeed life-changing.

The reason I cannot leave her school is that she doesn't force her students to be her followers (totally the opposite!)

She values each student's individuality and guides us to be "ourselves," in dance and in life.

Taking your courses has truly been a great help for me, both physically and mentally.

Literally, you saved my life...Thank you.

Taking online classes with Joana Saahirah has allowed me to fall even more in love with Oriental dance than I thought possible. As a teacher, Joana doesn't teach steps, she cultivates artists. She expects nothing less than your authentic self in every move, and she is a living example of that integrity. Don't get me wrong, she can break down a shimmy with the best of them, but connecting you to the purpose behind that shimmy is where Joana truly shines as a teacher. Whether in class or on stage, she is unapologetically creative and alive. Not only does she dance outside of the box, but she respects the hell out of that box, too! From our first class, Joana has pinpointed exactly what I needed and laid out exercises and inspirations to get me there. I truly look forward to my practice these days, which is often self-discovery. Learning from Joana is the most serious kind of fun. Thank you, Joana!

The best thing that happened to me in 2020 in the dance field was to discover Joana Saahirah's online dance school. Joana's teachings are what I will gladly carry with me into 2021 and further as I grow both in dance and on a personal level. When I first saw Joana's video performances, I was glued to the screen. I was captured by her presence, her unique style, and charisma. Intrigued, I decided to check out her online school courses. There I uncovered immense amounts of material, invaluable insights into dance and life in general, and a very rich, deeply caring, giving person. Joana's guidance has given me confidence in my path as a dancer and a human being. She has given me tools to achieve my dance goals. And in her magical ways, she has helped me find answers to profound questions. Joana leads by example and it shows in everything that she offers to her students. The material that she gives is always rich, captivating, and enlightening. I would highly recommend Joana's school of dance to dancers of any level and of any background. There is something special and highly useful in her teachings for everyone.

I definitely recommend Joana Saahirah´s School to other dancers!

The lessons are very well structured, the content is about the dance, about culture about the art and what it takes to be an artist- a human being, who is passionate about the craft. What I really like to mention is that you have a lot of passion for the dance and for the art- and that is what I can feel- and what people feel. What I love about your classes is the special connection of all the positive benefits dance has-and how important it is to feel good, to feel confident- that is what dance shows you and what you show in dance - it is vice versa. Your style of teaching is motivating- get out of the comfort zone-move your **s-and practice.

I like that you show us a way how to understand what it takes to be a confident human and a confident dancer. There are so many bonuses and resources as well. The classes are a great opportunity to develop- as a dancer and as a person. And you are there for us and give us support and feedback. Since I joined your classes, I feel much more confident and also curious.

Before starting to study with Joana I first fell in love and felt inspired by her dancing, wherein I found something "mystical" that makes me always think that Federico Fellini would have put her inside one of its magical movies.

Joana, as a teacher, is truly a gift.

She teaches without any reserve and she never stops giving, I'm always impressed about the amount of amazing contents she manages to give!

She conceived a peculiar "format" for his courses, that makes the process of learning fun, enjoyable and stimulating, because she gives, in addiction to the dance classes, many things to discover little by little. I always have the feeling I am a child with a box full of colorful toys to play with.

What I'd like to underline among everything is that Joana has the will to give her students fundamental tools for a more autonomous development of the dance. That it also means that she teaches at a "multilevel" way, always entering the field of self development.

I personally feel I have, with her, the chance to make order among everything, not only among the huge world that concerns "oriental dance", because joana spreads a direct knowledge of the egyptian culture, not only studied, but truly lived and absorbed beneath the skin, so she can put, and she wisely does, the dance teaching into contextualization; but also, I feel I'm developing a deeper understanding of what  dance technique is made of.

I personally realized that Joana lets you "return" to the dance technique, as kind of something your body belong to, something it deserves and it should explore, to feel more.

Definitely huge and well beyond expectation.

I´m very happy to have met Joana on my Oriental Dance path.

In her courses and method I´ve found answers to several needs and questions.

For instante, I´ve learned about the essence of Egyptian Dance, what is essential and what makes it magical.

Everything Joana shares in her courses fascinates me: the concepts she introduces, the exercises she proposes help you find, recognize, and build the unique dancer each of us carries within.

In all of her courses, I find an integrated and permanent way to develop self-empowerment, Egyptian Dance technique, and the essence of each style, all of it backed-up by the great richness of Joana´s experience in Egypt and her studies with the greatest musicians and Egyptian Dance masters. Furthermore, she does it all in a fun and vibrant way.

I´m deeply thankful for her generosity and for her willingness to create work that brings real evolution in her students.

Each course at Joana Saahirah´s Online Dance School is a meeting with myself, with my personal powers and unrecognized gifts.

Basically, I´m witnessing major growth in my dance and, above all, I feel happier and able to express who I am.

Yes, simply the BEST. She pours out so much love, passion, light through the screen to all students and it inspires me so much. There had been doubts, confusions in my head but she is the one saying exactly what I need to hear to awaken myself. Now I feel my heart is more open for every movement. Her classes change the landscape of my dance basically. She is such a blessing to the education of Egyptian Dance today.

Yara Sultan

(Savannah, USA)

She is a really *magical* dancer and teacher, my understanding of Egyptian dance (and my dance) has been trans-formative, deepened, since taking ONLY her online classes! She develops each class personally based on your needs that are visible (and invisible) to you. What you think you know, you really have no idea! I don't even know how to begin without writing a novel. I can only imagine what her live classes/workshops are like! Not only does she develop your dance, but your understanding of Egyptian history, the people and their culture, and learning the heart of it all... the great secrets to this dance you don't hear about in your normal classes. Time is spent in EACH class developing not only your dance but your understanding of the magic behind it all. Sometimes in very unusual but exciting, and interesting ways.

And that is true! I am one of those super lucky and happy people = Joana's student and I can't thank her enough for all that she's shared with me, taught me, for her huge help to find my difficulties not only in dance but also in life. I am so excited to continue our path and see what comes next, because I never know what to expect but I am completely sure it will be a magic discovery, a precious experience, a light that will guide me in my way called Life. I can't recommend Joana enough. You just ought to try her classes, and it is not what I am saying, but what comes from the deepest part of my heart.

YES, I want to learn how to dance an authentic Baladi Awadi & rediscover myself along the way.

Why have I created this pioneering Course?

I´ve created this Course because it changed my dance & life and, now, I´d like it to change yours;

I´ve created it because I know, in my heart, it´s an essential experience for every Oriental Dancer - amateur and professional;

I´ve created it because it´s one of my "expertise" areas and I know you´re going to learn it "by the book", faithful to authentic Egyptian Tradition;

Joana is an exceptional person, I´ve known her for several years.

She´s a passionate supporter of dance as an art form, her heart beats for the Egyptian dance and culture.  Her choreographies demonstrate her creativity and technical abilities, where movements bring the music to life, synchronizing mind and body.

Joana infuses her students with the same passion. With an outstanding technical eye and the strongest background in different facets of dance technique, she is fully dedicated to each of her students and is aware of both their strengths and the areas in which they need to develop. Although the proper technique is critical to Joana's approach, she requires always more, from herself and from her dancers. She wants dancers to flourish as performers by discovering their OWN style, their OWN personality.

Her spirit and heart are enormous, and she is an ambassador for the world of Egyptian Dance and the world of dance in general.

Orit Maftsir

(Internationally acclaimed Oriental Dancer & Teacher; the creator of the monumental "Eilat Festival")

Joana's dance is a rare combination between high intelligence and deep cultural knowledge- behind her beauty and feminity.

She is the only teacher I´ve known who passed not only the how - but also the why.

I was personally inspired by her and was able to finally control my own small hip breaks thanks to her clear and visible control.

Meeting Joana and being her friend is one of the best things in the Belly Dance community- it is rare and not always possible to maintain, but there is such a thing- a true soul mate in Bellydance!

Candice Frankland

(Professional Oriental Dancer & Teacher; the creator of Phoenix Belly Dance, New Zealand)

I remember the moment I first saw Joana, it was in Istanbul and she charged the dance floor like an eagle diving for its prey - I was mesmerized, enchanted, afraid, and liberated by her performance. Following that, I attended her workshops where I lapped up her teachings like they were balm for my dance soul. After booking a private lesson, I realized this Teacher had the power to make real and lasting changes in not just her students' movements, but in their perception of Egyptian dance, as well as themselves (I don’t consider myself someone who cries much, but I had tears rolling down my face during the lesson from the profundity of what I absorbed). I have since hosted her for workshops and performances in Auckland, and she brought just as much wisdom and passion to share with our community as my first meetings with her. I am forever grateful, and I cannot recommend highly enough to any dancer that wishes to learn the depths of Egyptian dance and feel the shift of insight that Joana’s work brings.

Catarina Branco

(Professional Oriental Dancer & Teacher, owner of Catarina Branco Oriental School)

From the moment I met Joana, I became her fan in and off stage.

The way she understands and shares Egyptian Dance through her movement and her voice forces me to get up and applaud.

She presents Baladi, the root, Egypt in the shape of music and dance, through her body, her art, sensibility, creativity, originality, essence and truth in a unique, genuine way filled with respect, knowledge, and wisdom.

Words aren´t enough to honor and do the proper homage to this artist, woman and force of Nature.

Her dance takes me back to Egypt, a country that has always received me with open arms. To watch her dance is to feel Egypt. Joana carries the rhythm of Egyptian life in her body and in her soul, the movement and the silence that moves, slowly, in the heat of Sahara.

Thank you, Joana, for your contribution to the world of dance and for presenting this art and culture that I love so much with all its colors.

Testimonials from students who took the 1st & 2nd Editions of

"How to Dance a Baladi Awadi"

Mirit Svist (USA)

"I really enjoyed this course. It was created with love, passion, and compassion.

This course was very refreshing, like pure water in a desert.

Thank you, Joana, for sharing your love with us.
This was a transformational experience for me.

Although I am not a beginner at belly dancing and teach belly dance, I am always eager to learn something I did not know. I want to be able to dance to different styles. Balady awadi is new to me. I've never been to Egypt and had no idea about those low class Egyptians, who happen to be so similar to my own grandparents, who lived in a Ukrainian village and were poor as well.

Amazingly, I can easily relate myself to those low class Egyptians through my grandparents I knew, who were also celebratory as well. Joana shared her love to those people verbally and through her wonderful choreography.

Steps without meaning are definitely not Dance.

This course reminded me how to get out of this Covid knockout. How important being in a present moment is. How important gratitude for every single bit of life is. How important is self-love. I forgot about myself since my husband was diagnosed with cancer in 2019.

I put all my energy into helping his condition by cooking healthy meals for him. While doing it I forgot about myself, and ended up with extremely high blood pressure.

Now I am recovering because I took Joanna's course seriously. She reminded me of the importance of self-love, the importance of meditations, and the importance of having joy every day. She helped me to get back to who I am.

I recommend this course to all dancers. First and foremost, because you will learn from a real master and a wonderful dancer. You will learn what it takes to be the one.

Thank you so very much dear Joana for your amazing course!

It was very informative, transformational and educational. I really enjoyed being with you, you brought so much love, light, life to Baladi Awadi dancing!"

Mariam Dalhoumi (USA)

"With the right teacher, Egyptian Dance can be transformative on so many levels.

And in order to make such a transformative journey, you need a teacher that you can trust and that truly wants to see you grow into the best and most fulfilled version of yourself, in dance and in life.

Joana is definitely one of those teachers who has that love, genuinity, and passion!

The Baladi Awadi is perhaps one of the more difficult or challenging parts of Egyptian dance to teach and learn, because it requires so much more than mechanical dance steps!

I am therefore so happy and grateful that I found this course with Joana, who has created a beautiful and deep learning experience in "How to Dance a Baladi Awadi".

In addition to a beautiful and powerful Baladi Awadi choreography, you will, among other things, dive into and develop theoretical knowledge about the dance and the culture of which it is a part, musicality, and last but not least, you will dive into and develop yourself on a dance, mind, and life level.

This course, just like any other work by Joana, is NOT a superficial dance course (Thank you, Joana!).

After taking and committing to this course, I feel that several shifts have taken place and actual changes have been put into motion, and I have tools to keep the transformation going even after completing the course."

Stefy Policastro (Italy)

"I want to tell you thank you for this course.

I've finally understood how to dance a Baladi Awadi, the structure, the mood and the feeling I need for dancing it.

Without your help, I couldn't do It, especially the crescendo where I didn't know what to do for running after the music!

You gave me the key and the calm and the heart for approaching this fantastic style and enjoying myself with it.

You taught me do dance for my pleasure without thinking about to try to be beautiful and this is the best thing you gifted me.

I hope many other students take part in this fantastic experience!

You are so charismatic and empathetic; a sweet and strong woman and you dance with your Heart in your hands.

Thanks a lot, Joana."

Celeste Evans (USA)

"I loved the Baladi Awadi course. I feel as though learning from an instructor who has spent time studying/performing in Egypt brings an authenticity to the class.

A huge benefit from this course is Joana´s personalized feedback on my dance. I’ve incorporated her suggestions as I prepare for a show and see my improvements with every follow-up video I take of myself. I realize that a lot of this style dance really must come from within. It’s not enough to learn the technique, I’ve dug deep to pull out feelings and add my personality to my dance.

I highly recommend this course to dancers wanting to dive deeply into this soulful style of dance.

If you do the work proposed in the course, you´ll come through it having learned how to go into yourself and find your motivation to dance expressively."

Cecilia Zuniga (Costa Rica)

"The only thing that comes out is to continue to work on this course, really applying all your teachings and the exercises and practices you give us every week.

Every class and bonus has been an "aha" moment for me.

Through the years I have been studying oriental dance I have improved a lot in my self-esteem, shyness, and in "being loud".

But with this course I have improved more than in 20 years of dance. So I think one thing to do to expand my biggest qualities, improve or eliminate my shadow/fragilities of character and celebrate my Womanhood even further is to embrace this course and take away everything possible."

Jamila Zahran (USA)

"I recently participated in Joana's Baladi Awadi course and was very pleased with its content and commentary.

In addition, to giving us the "meat" of a beautiful choreography, she adds the "seasoning" of her wealth of knowledge on Egyptian womens' culture as well as self-empowerment exercises.

I highly recommend taking a course in Joana's Dance School either from a dance education viewpoint or self exploration exercise.

Thank you for sharing your dynamism with us."

Juniper Willow (USA)

"I´m so thankful for you sharing your knowledge with the world.

I have to say, you truly changed my life in such a positive way. I feel so connected with Egyptian dance and myself on such a deeper level I had no idea it was even possible. I´m dreaming non-stop about learning more.

I cry tears of joy and a bit of sadness because this is what I have been searching for my entire life. I was so lost for so many years until I realized I wanted to be a dancer but then I became a lost dancer. Misguided because I had no one to teach me. Until I discovered you.

I fell deeply in love with Egyptian culture and I know I will visit Egypt one day. It’s so strange how the dance pulls you in. How it opens your eyes to learning the truth about the dance and Myself.

Baladi Awadi/ Baladi dance is the dance my body and spirit have been searching for. It´s right for my personality because it’s so grounded. I walk the earth barefoot. I dig my hands into the soil. I breathe with the trees and dance beneath the moon and the stars.

I live in the forest disconnected from society because that is where my heart belongs and I feel that is what brought me to Baladi. I had no knowledge of Baladi. I only knew it was a rhythm. I always wondered more about it and that’s how I found you. I googled info about Baladi and one of your YouTube videos popped up, so I decided to watch it and I was like whoa!!! Who is this beautiful magical woman? She knows what she is talking about so I watched more videos and then I saw you were a teacher. Once that discovery was made I saved every penny to sign up for one of your courses. I am hooked. I am completely hooked lol.

I feel more connected to the music. You have taught me how to listen. Once the music plays, my ears begin to twinkle and twitch like little antennas searching for the sound. Once the waves reach my ears they make their way to my heart and then my body moves in ways I didn’t even know it could. I was always so focused on what dance move I should do instead of just moving. Now I  listen, feel and move. I am learning how to enjoy my dancing. I am tasting the moves and music, something I never would have thought of doing. I am less of a nervous dancer now when I am able to let go and just enjoy myself and the music.

I would highly recommend people to sign up for your courses if they wish to discover the true art of Egyptian dance. If they wish to dive deeper into the culture. If they wish to throw away their masks and become heart dancers. Exposing their inner world to the world.

Thank you again, Joana. I´m so blessed to have you as my teacher.

I´m like a drug addict waiting to get her fix but with knowledge (hahah). I wish you happiness, love, excellent health and many blessings."

"I subscribed to the Baladi Awadi course as I wanted to fully understand the structure of it, learn about its roots & origin, the people dancing it & the music & instruments used.

I trusted Joana's knowledge & experience to teach it with love, passion & enthusiasm for this beautiful dance she loves so much.

And I enjoyed the course! How could I not!

Joana is such a giving teacher. She shares so much of her knowledge & experience with huge passion & devotion to delivering the best content possible.

I enjoyed it because I learned in great detail the Baladi Awadi structure.

I loved the choreography as it helped me to see where, why & how she used certain moves  which gave me confidence to try out myself with other Baladi Awadi tracks.

I loved learning about the culture, clothing & the music & instrument breakdowns ..

I thought the assessments were interesting & a good way to assess yourself & I really liked the way the course was set out as it made it very easy to access & navigate.

It was very helpful to have a run through of the choreography back & front for each module to use as reference when practicing & then the audio file of the music to use when confident without watching Joana.

I really like the subtle way Joana helps you to discover yourself, think in a different way & grow in confidence & all her tips on how to do this have definitely given me a more positive belief in myself & my dancing.

I couldn't think of anything that could make this course better... Whatever Joana does is always so well thought through & created from her heart, as well as drawing on her own personal experiences.

This course has definitely given me a much clearer understanding of a Baladi Awadi & I no longer feel quite so intimidated as I did before. I have more confidence to experiment with other tracks & also to feel more comfortable & accepting about myself while dancing.

The course has really helped me connect with myself more, breathe consciously & be aware of expressing myself through my movements.

I recommend the course to other dancers who are serious about learning everything to do with Egyptian Dance.

Joana teaches so much more than just steps & poses, she shares all her knowledge of the country, its history, the icons of dance, the culture & the music.

She breaks down movements & steps & teaches the correct technique in all her choreographies & explains in detail.

She is always patient, wonderfully supportive & enthusiastic & answers any questions honestly in an upbeat, positive way making learning not only interesting but also fun!

I don't think there can be one student of hers that doesn't love her to bits!"
