What our (gorgeous) Students say about this Course:

I subscribed to the Baladi Awadi course as I wanted to fully understand the structure of it, learn about its roots & origin, the people dancing it & the music & instruments used. I trusted Joana's knowledge & experience to teach it with love, passion & enthusiasm for this beautiful dance she loves so much. And I enjoyed the course! How could I not! Joana is such a giving teacher. She shares so much of her knowledge & experience with huge passion & devotion to delivering the best content possible. I enjoyed it because I learned in great detail the Baladi Awadi structure. I loved the choreography as it helped me to see where, why & how she used certain moves which gave me confidence to try out myself with other Baladi Awadi tracks. I loved learning about the culture, clothing & the music & instrument breakdowns .. I thought the assessments were interesting & a good way to assess yourself & I really liked the way the course was set out as it made it very easy to access & navigate. It was very helpful to have a run through of the choreography back & front for each module to use as reference when practicing & then the audio file of the music to use when confident without watching Joana. I really like the subtle way Joana helps you to discover yourself, think in a different way & grow in confidence & all her tips on how to do this have definitely given me a more positive belief in myself & my dancing. I couldn't think of anything that could make this course better... Whatever Joana does is always so well thought through & created from her heart, as well as drawing on her own personal experiences. This course has definitely given me a much clearer understanding of a Baladi Awadi & I no longer feel quite so intimidated as I did before. I have more confidence to experiment with other tracks & also to feel more comfortable & accepting about myself while dancing. The course has really helped me connect with myself more, breathe consciously & be aware of expressing myself through my movements. I recommend the course to other dancers who are serious about learning everything to do with Egyptian Dance. Joana teaches so much more than just steps & poses, she shares all her knowledge of the country, its history, the icons of dance, the culture & the music. She breaks down movements & steps & teaches the correct technique in all her choreographies & explains in detail. She is always patient, wonderfully supportive & enthusiastic & answers any questions honestly in an upbeat, positive way making learning not only interesting but also fun! I don't think there can be one student of hers that doesn't love her to bits!

I loved the Baladi Awadi course. I feel as though learning from an instructor who has spent time studying/performing in Egypt brings an authenticity to the class. A huge benefit from this course is Joana´s personalized feedback on my dance. I’ve incorporated her suggestions as I prepare for a show and see my improvements with every follow-up video I take of myself. I realize that a lot of this style dance really must come from within. It’s not enough to learn the technique, I’ve dug deep to pull out feelings and add my personality to my dance. I highly recommend this course to dancers wanting to dive deeply into this soulful style of dance. If you do the work proposed in the course, you´ll come through it having learned how to go into yourself and find your motivation to dance expressively.

I want to tell you thank you for this course. I've finally understood how to dance a Baladi Awadi, the structure, the mood and the feeling I need for dancing it. Without your help, I couldn't do It, especially the crescendo where I didn't know what to do for running after the music! You gave me the key and the calm and the heart for approaching this fantastic style and enjoying myself with it. You taught me do dance for my pleasure without thinking about to try to be beautiful and this is the best thing you gifted me. I hope many other students take part in this fantastic experience! You are so charismatic and empathetic; a sweet and strong woman and you dance with your Heart in your hands. Thanks a lot, Joana.

I´m so thankful for you sharing your knowledge with the world. I have to say, you truly changed my life in such a positive way. I feel so connected with Egyptian dance and myself on such a deeper level I had no idea it was even possible. I´m dreaming non-stop about learning more. I cry tears of joy and a bit of sadness because this is what I have been searching for my entire life. I was so lost for so many years until I realized I wanted to be a dancer but then I became a lost dancer. Misguided because I had no one to teach me. Until I discovered you. I fell deeply in love with Egyptian culture and I know I will visit Egypt one day. It’s so strange how the dance pulls you in. How it opens your eyes to learning the truth about the dance and Myself. Baladi Awadi/ Baladi dance is the dance my body and spirit have been searching for. It´s right for my personality because it’s so grounded. I walk the earth barefoot. I dig my hands into the soil. I breathe with the trees and dance beneath the moon and the stars. I live in the forest disconnected from society because that is where my heart belongs and I feel that is what brought me to Baladi. I had no knowledge of Baladi. I only knew it was a rhythm. I always wondered more about it and that’s how I found you. I googled info about Baladi and one of your YouTube videos popped up, so I decided to watch it and I was like whoa!!! Who is this beautiful magical woman? She knows what she is talking about so I watched more videos and then I saw you were a teacher. Once that discovery was made I saved every penny to sign up for one of your courses. I am hooked. I am completely hooked lol. I feel more connected to the music. You have taught me how to listen. Once the music plays, my ears begin to twinkle and twitch like little antennas searching for the sound. Once the waves reach my ears they make their way to my heart and then my body moves in ways I didn’t even know it could. I was always so focused on what dance move I should do instead of just moving. Now I listen, feel and move. I am learning how to enjoy my dancing. I am tasting the moves and music, something I never would have thought of doing. I am less of a nervous dancer now when I am able to let go and just enjoy myself and the music. I would highly recommend people to sign up for your courses if they wish to discover the true art of Egyptian dance. If they wish to dive deeper into the culture. If they wish to throw away their masks and become heart dancers. Exposing their inner world to the world. Thank you again, Joana. I´m so blessed to have you as my teacher. I´m like a drug addict waiting to get her fix but with knowledge (hahah). I wish you happiness, love, excellent health and many blessings.

Every class and bonus in this Course has been an "aha" moment for me. Through the years I have been studying oriental dance I have improved a lot in my self-esteem, shyness, and in "being loud". But with this course I have improved more than in 20 years of dance. So I think one thing to do to expand my biggest qualities, improve or eliminate my shadow/fragilities of character and celebrate my Womanhood even further is to embrace this course and take away everything possible.

I really enjoyed this course. It was created with love, passion, and compassion. This course was very refreshing, like pure water in a desert. Thank you, Joana, for sharing your love with us. This was a transformational experience for me. Although I am not a beginner at belly dancing and teach belly dance, I am always eager to learn something I did not know. I want to be able to dance to different styles. Balady awadi is new to me. I've never been to Egypt and had no idea about those low class Egyptians, who happen to be so similar to my own grandparents, who lived in a Ukrainian village and were poor as well. Amazingly, I can easily relate myself to those low class Egyptians through my grandparents I knew, who were also celebratory as well. Joana shared her love to those people verbally and through her wonderful choreography. Steps without meaning are definitely not Dance. This course reminded me how to get out of this Covid knockout. How important being in a present moment is. How important gratitude for every single bit of life is. How important is self-love. I forgot about myself since my husband was diagnosed with cancer in 2019. I put all my energy into helping his condition by cooking healthy meals for him. While doing it I forgot about myself, and ended up with extremely high blood pressure. Now I am recovering because I took Joanna's course seriously. She reminded me of the importance of self-love, the importance of meditations, and the importance of having joy every day. She helped me to get back to who I am. I recommend this course to all dancers. First and foremost, because you will learn from a real master and a wonderful dancer. You will learn what it takes to be the one. Thank you so very much dear Joana for your amazing course! It was very informative, transformational and educational. I really enjoyed being with you, you brought so much love, light, life to Baladi Awadi dancing!

With the right teacher, Egyptian Dance can be transformative on so many levels. And in order to make such a transformative journey, you need a teacher that you can trust and that truly wants to see you grow into the best and most fulfilled version of yourself, in dance and in life. Joana is definitely one of those teachers who has that love, genuinity, and passion! The Baladi Awadi is perhaps one of the more difficult or challenging parts of Egyptian dance to teach and learn, because it requires so much more than mechanical dance steps! I am therefore so happy and grateful that I found this course with Joana, who has created a beautiful and deep learning experience in "How to Dance a Baladi Awadi". In addition to a beautiful and powerful Baladi Awadi choreography, you will, amongst other things, dive into and develop theoretical knowledge about the dance and the culture of which it is a part, musicality, and last but not least, you will dive into and develop yourself on a dance, mind, and life level. This course, just like any other work by Joana, is NOT a superficial dance course (Thank you, Joana!). After taking and committing to this course, I feel that several shifts have taken place and actual changes have been put into motion, and I have tools to keep the transformation going even after completing the course.

I recently participated in Joana's Balady Awadi course and was very pleased with its content and commentary. In addition, to giving us the "meat" of a beautiful choreography, she adds the "seasoning" of her wealth of knowledge on Egyptian womens' culture as well as self-empowerment exercises. I would highly recommend taking a course in Joana's Dance School either from a dance education viewpoint or self exploration exercise. Thank you for sharing your dynamism with us.
