My favourite Egyptian Musical Instruments (& why)

Tabla (or darbouka)

Can I call her the Queen of Egyptian Music?

I can and I will.

The Tabla - aka the Darbouka - is the backbone of Egyptian Music, an essential instrument for Oriental Dancers and one of my favorite instruments.

I love it because it awakens the best in my Masculine Polarity and because it reminds me of my roots, instinct, and untamed nature.

Plus, it allows me to be super creative as a dancer.

Egyptian Accordion (aka Baladi Accordion)

Oh, my

What can I say?

The Egyptian Accordion is a passion of mine - once I listen to it, my hips can´t be stopped.

The sound of this instrument takes us back to the circles of "baladi" women, to kitchens filled with the aroma of Egyptian cuisine, and to raw sensuality.

Although this isn´t considered an "original" instrument in Classical Egyptian Music, it´s one of the most beautiful additions of contemporary times.

Its sound awakens the nostalgia and the fire we all carry in our wombs.

Superb.

Nay, Kawala, and other family members

If Instruments had a color - and they do -, the Nay, the Kawala and their relatives would have the color of the sky.

I love the Egyptian flutes because they´re direct "Tarab" triggers.

If you don´t feel like levitating while you listen to it, you´re an alien already; not fully human.

I love the way its sound moves my heart and the best feelings I carry within.

Every Instrument has a character, a voice, and an invitation of itself.

Knowing them is half-way to becoming a master Oriental Dancer.
