How to improve your Self-Esteem

🎙️🎁Practical tips to improve your Self-Esteem from our guest, Jadranka Trickovic-Mohr:

 

1. Intentional Self-Care (the feeling that I deserve good stuff and giving myself good stuff).

2. Write down 5 things you love about yourself and ask someone who knows you well the same question.

2.1. Register those answers. Take them in. Feel them in your bones.

3. Think about an issue you struggle with.

Write a letter to yourself from the perspective of your best friend (someone who cares about you) offering solace or a solution. 

What would your best friend advise you to do?

4. The Opposite Action exercise.

4.1. Identify something that makes you feel bad about yourself (shame, guilt, insecurity, etc). Assume the physical posture opposite to that negative feeling.

Example: opening your heart/chest in a posture of confidence when you realize you´re feeling insecure.

4.2. Do the opposite action.

Identify what´s bringing you down and do the opposite of what that feeling suggests.

Example: I feel I´m not good enough. Therefore, I´m going to do something that speaks about being enough, feeling you´re enough.

5. Engage socially with other people.

Be seen by others. Communicate. Create relationships. Share yourself.

 5. Ask yourself:

What do I need? 

and

What do I like?

Listen to your desires and needs and answer accordingly (with a good balance between self-indulgence and healthy choices)

1. Realize that thoughts are not facts. 

Don´t believe everything you think.

 

2. Take the responsibility of Self-Esteem back into your hands.

It´s your job to know, accept, like, and celebrate yourself. Stop waiting for others to do that job. 

3. Challenge yourself and complete tasks.

Pick a dream, a goal, or a relevant task and materialize it. Honor your word/commitment. Do what you said you were going to do.

 

4. Respect yourself and others.

Draw limits around disrespectful behavior. Respect yourself and others. Ask for the same respect from others. 

Set boundaries around the treatment you accept to receive and the treatment you don´t accept.

5. Treat yourself like you treat the person you love the most.

Self-care.

Healthy routines and habits.

Positive self-talk.

Loving thoughts, words, and actions towards yourself.

 

6. Accept that not everyone is going to like you, and that´s fine.

Be yourself. Shine your light. Some will connect, some will dislike you, and some will ignore you. It´s all good. 

The only person who has to love yourself, unconditionally, is you. 

 

7. Accept that Self-Esteem is a work in progress.

This is a process you´ll have to revisit until you die.

 

8. Recognize your strengths and weaknesses of character.

The stuff you already do well and the things you could improve in your thoughts and behaviour.

 

9. Compliment yourself.

Pat yourself on the back. Applaud yourself. Be your own cheerleader.

 

10. Learn from your Mistakes.

Take responsibility for your mistakes and ask

"what can I learn from this?"

and

"how can I do better next time?"
