How to create your
(Personal & Unique) Dance Style💃👑

How to create your Personal Dance Style (in the field of Egyptian Dance)❤

This is one of the questions I get asked the most.
Dancers wonder, go outside, search for formulas, and yet, they keep searching for that elusive "personal dance style" that could, they believe, allow them to shine.

👉Here are a few steps that´ll help each dancer find her/his inner spark and her/his language within the universal language of Egyptian Dance:

1️⃣. Input + Output.

You learn and you create with what you learn.
Instead of being a mere receptacle for the knowledge others offer, you receive that knowledge - humbly - and then, make it your own by going into creative explorations.

Improvise using what you´re learning.
Choreograph using what you´re learning.
Mess up. Try. Know the rules and break them. Get your hands and soul in the mud.

2️⃣. Learn Dance Technique, not only Choreographies.

The fashion, these days, is to drop a choreography on dancers´ laps and call it "teaching".

Choreographies are great - I use them in my work, daily - but they´re a finished proposal from the choreographer. A point of view which is not your own.
Learn the dance technique and then, once more, create.

4️⃣. Exercise your Personal Angle.

How do you listen to the music?
How do you feel a particular movement?
How does your body want to react to a sound or to silence?
How does a particular song trigger you?

Exercising your personal angle on the music and the movement is not a disrespect towards your teacher - it´s an evolutionary act of freedom.

5️⃣. Know Yourself & Own It.

Yep. We´re going to get "woo woo", as I´m often told (in my back).

If by "woo woo", we mean soulful and real, that´s where we´re going.

Knowing yourself, what makes you unique - your personality, sensibility, heart, and particular point of view - and using it all in your dance is essential.
Personal charisma is not the opposite of dance skills. They complement each other.

In fact, the dance skills are meant to serve self-expression. They´re vehicles for the expression of one´s soul.

P.S.: In the video shared above, I´m doing it my way, in Savannah, USA.
