My Story with Mahmoud Reda

I met Mahmoud Reda, the Father of Egyptian Folklore, while I was attending a dance festival in Cairo - I was a beginner, shy, and hiding in the last row. 

What felt like ages after that first encounter - during which I ran away from Mahmoud while other dancers were taking pictures and asking for autographs) - I moved to Egypt to start my career.

Dance contracts in Lebanon and Oman followed. Then, my much-dreamed-desired-envied dance contract in Egypt with my own orchestra arrived. 

I had a 1-hour show to create and sustain, day after day, month after month, year after year. The urgency of a rich and varied dance program was obvious.

Then, Mahmoud Reda arrived to my life.

I requested a first private class to learn Upper Egyptian Dance and Tradition; he refused to receive my payment for the class and promised to teach me all he had, for free, for as long as he lived. And he did. 

From that day on, a professional, creative, and personal relationship of priceless value was born.

I started as a student, developed into a professional collaborator - teaching and choreographing with Mahmoud in Egypt and abroad -, and it grew into a friendship that´ll inspire and sustain me till I die. 

From Mahmoud, I learned all there was to be learned on Egyptian Folklore and Culture. Plus, the art of being a professional Artist, and a good-decent-kind human being.
